Thanks for the suggestion! I've sent a sample to my Kindle and will be reading it today!

As a person who reads quite a bit of personal development books, let me provide you with a bunch that I've enjoyed over time:

How To Win Friends and Influence People
http://www.amazon.com/How-Friends-Influence-People-ebook/dp/B003WEAI4E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&m=AG56TWVU5XWC2&s=digital-text&qid=1303137993&sr=1-1

The Power of Now
http://www.amazon.com/The-Power-of-Now-ebook/dp/B002361MLA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&m=AG56TWVU5XWC2&s=digital-text&qid=1303138051&sr=1-1
(Good start for Eckhart Tolle books)

Face It and Fix It
http://www.amazon.com/Face-Fix-ebook/dp/B0027KRRSO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&m=AG56TWVU5XWC2&s=digital-text&qid=1303138114&sr=1-1
(Ken Seeley from Intervention on A&E. Full of great exercises!)

The Power of Less: The Fine Art of Limiting Yourself to the Essential
http://www.amazon.com/Power-Less-Limiting-Essential-ebook/dp/B001ODEPLM/ref=pd_sim_kinc_1?ie=UTF8&m=AG56TWVU5XWC2
(Leo Babauta also has a free blog called Zen Habits, which is also great!)

I'd offer more, though there's not enough time in the day  This is a great start though!

These aren't exactly self-help books, but I tend to treat all books as self-improvement no matter the genre. The Tao of Pooh and The Te of Piglet are both analysis of the Taoists writings from the perspective of a literary analysis of the Winnie the Pooh books. They explain the tenets of Taoism using an example of something very familiar to most of us. A lot of Taoism is learning to be satisfied with things the way they are and work with the natural forces that drive the universe, which I think syncs very well with what Paul often says about spirituality in the podcast. The books explain that spirituality very well, and I think they have a lot to offer in terms of dealing with depression or anxiety.

Hmm, never thought of "The Te of Piglet" and "The Tao of Pooh" as a self-help book, but for me they were helpful for my spiritual development.

Self help book is where you’ll find a range of self improvement and self help books comprehensively reviewed and rated. It takes you away from the stresses of daily life and settles you down but of course books geared to helping can have unbelievable results if you head all the advice within their pages.

"The Journey from Abandonment to Healing" is amazing. I've some severe abandonment issues and have suffered greatly from a few bad breakups. This book really puts things in perspective. Clearly laid out with helpful anecdotes from people. I found this book when I really needed it a few years back and my copy is riddled with underlined passages.

The best books ever that changed my life and helped me get off my meds, until my job go so stressful (needed some help) but still love the books and read them all the time.

The four agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz
and The Mastery of Love

READ THEM! ITs amazing how he puts it into perspective that we are all living in hell and your the only one that can get you out. He talks about relationships with everyone, husband, wife, kids , coworkers, friends and how you should feel and expect. and how people project their feelings a bout themselves onto you.

agreement 1

Be impeccable with your word - Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.
agreement 2

Don’t take anything personally - Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering.
agreement 3

Don’t make assumptions - Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.
agreement 4

Always do your best - Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse and regret.

Heres where to find the books. I think audible.com has them too.

They are so wise and helped me alot. I got them for my mom and she loved them too.

My therapist and I do exercises in the Feeling Good Handbook by Dr. David Burns. It's really helped me a lot. It's basically a workbook that has written exercises for practicing specific techniques, such as identifying negative thoughts and what kind of distortion in logic is causing it. It's all really concrete and practical stuff, without a lot of the touchy-feeliness that can turn people off to self-help books. It mostly focuses on cognitive behavioral therapy.
